Burlesque dancer Betty Blaize is known in Belly Dance circles as Lakshmi Amman, and is teaching her unique blend of burlesque, middle eastern dance, classical Indian dance, and Indian martial arts.
She says:
"For the first time, I'll be teaching something I really think of as *my* style - so please join me on this exciting new journey.
I want to give people the building blocks to blend Middle Eastern and Indian dance whether they're doing improv or planning a routine. I'll end up gearing the class to the level of the students - so consider it "all levels". Fortunately, I've learned through Indian dance how to keep the experts challenged while not killing the new people!
Agenda will include:
* Some serious butt-kicking delivered with great joy: death by shimmy and the Indian version, tat'adavu. If you haven't tried it, you don't know how much you'll hate it. But it's just what you want to make the Indian stuff look good, and to give you the best derriere that money can't buy.
* Combinations that blend Indian and Middle Eastern.
* Tricks for transitions between the two.
* And the icing on the cake - the pretty little things that make for great dance, no matter what

- No previous experience is necessary. This two-hour class was designed and created with the novice burlesquer in mind. Burlesque is a terrific form of expression for any woman. It builds confidence, comfort with your own body - and it's great exercise too!
In just two hours you'll learn...
* The Three Pillars of Burlesque: Bumps, Grinds, and Shimmies
* The Essentials of Striptease: from the Outside In
* All About Pasties and Tassel Twirling**
* Boas: A Girl's Best Friend!
** - Please note, that while this class teaches how to use pasties, we do not provide them. Please bring your own, or pasties will be available for sale at the class.
Boas are available for loan, but you may bring your own.
Students need to bring: long gloves, button-front shirt, zippered skirt, back fastening bra, and pasties.
NOTE: No one under 16 years old will be admitted.

- The Wrathskellar is The Boston Babydolls take on a dark cabaret. It involves dancing, striptease, variety acts, music, and magic. It is a departure from our normal style and music, but still maintains the high production values and level of professionalism that are the hallmark of every Boston Babydolls show. A version of The Wrathskellar was performed in July 2009 at The Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown. The 2010 production is changed, updated, and improved from that show, but still retains the same dark elements and many of the same characters.
Rehearsals will be Wednesday and Sunday evenings starting mid-August. While every performer may not be required to be at every rehearsal, especially early in the rehearsal process, expect to be rehearsing at least twice a week by late September, plus practicing on your own.
Performances will be October 24 - October 31, 2010 at The Cambridge Y.M.C.A. Theater in Central Square (820 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge). Anyone cast in the show must attend all performances.

Auditions take place Sunday, July 25 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at B.A.B.E. (119 Braintree Road, Suite #208, Allston, MA 02134 )
